I’m officially signed up for the Walt Disney World Marathon 2020! In three months, my husband, our three-year-old daughter, my brother, and I will be flying to Disney World for 8 nights. In this blog post, I share about my goal for my first marathon and dates/details about our upcoming vacation! We are also celebrating a birthday 🙂
I started running in 2015 and I signed up for my first half marathon even before running a 5K (or right after running my first 5K–something like that).
Now in October 2019 after:
several 5K and 10Ks
3 half marathons
5 RunDisney races (including coast to coast)
I feel ready for a full marathon!
I started training for the WDW marathon on August 25th, 2019. I didn’t register for the race until October 2019. I wanted to make sure I was mentally and physically ready for it before investing money on it.
In August, I bought a new pair of running shoes (Brook’s Adrenaline 19) and I found a running plan/schedule that I thought would work best for me.
I’ve been running in Brooks shoes since 2015 and I love them!
I am following a 20 week marathon training schedule which I found through Pinterest. It was created by Running After Lukas and you can find it HERE. I chose this plan because it does not have a long run over 20 miles and it just has ONE 20-mile run. The plan also starts with very low mileage and increases mileage slowly. The first week was just a total of 6 miles in 4 days. I really needed that after taking 4 months off running.

After I ran my first half marathon, I had this idea of running 26.2 miles on my 26th birthday week.
I had forgotten about that. I am now a few months into 26. But, hey, I will still be 26 years old by January 2020 which I think is pretty neat. my birthday is in March.
My goal for my first marathon:
To cross the finish line without getting swept and without injuring myself. I don’t want to start a Disney vacation with an injury or a hospital visit. That would be a nightmare!
I love RunDisney races because I love taking pictures with Disney characters along the course.
Obviously, I’m not aiming for a time goal because I plan to stop and meet as many characters as I can during the marathon. Those lines take up time (specially for us runners who start in the last corrals).
It will be an automatic PR (personal record) anyway because it will be my first marathon.
I’m doing this for fun. I love RunDisney weekends and I love the running community.
I’ll be a marathoner in 3 months!
I’m not looking forward to those long runs in the winter. Our winter last year in Chicago was unbelievable. The coldest it has ever been! Luckily, I have a treadmill for when it’s needed.
Our Disney World vacation dates:
Friday, January 10th 2020 – Saturday, Januar y18th 2020
Disney World Resort that we are staying at for 8 nights:
Disney’s Pop Century Resort
What we are celebrating:
Elena’s 4th birthday (January 11th) and my first marathon!
What I’m most excited about for this trip:
Celebrating Elena’s birthday by her running the RunDisney kid race, going to Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique and Magic Kingdom all on the same day–her exact birthday.
89 days until I’m be back to my castle home! I’m so so excited and I can’t wait to share it all with you!
Are you running the WDW Marathon 2020?
When’s your next Disney trip?
Have you ran a marathon (doesn’t have to be Disney)?
Any advise for first-time marathoners?
