I haven’t done a Week in review in a while. This from for October 16-October 19,2019.
Elena is obsessed with Target (just the toy section) and she asked if we could go because she wanted a new LOL doll. She has so many already and she plays with all of them. It’s cute. I bought her an LOL doll and she was disappointing because she got a doll that looks like a boy. You don’t know what you get until you open it. I’m not sure if it’s a boy or girl? It has a tattoo that says “mom” with a heart and arrow across.
I’ve been impressed with Target’s toddler clothes clearance lately. They have some great stuff at awesome prices. After the summer, I scored 50%-70% off her summer clothes for summer 2020.
I purchased 4 tops, 1 leggings, and 1 PJ set for Elena all on clearance except for the leggings.
Left to right:
Cat & Jack planets shirt: $4.90 (regular $7.00)
Oshkosh yellow top: $7.68 (regular $10.99)
Oshkosh pink blouse: $9.08 (regular $12.99)
Cat & Jack mint plaid: $8.40 (regular (12.00)
Cat & Jack white leggings $5.00
I highly recommend checking out your local Target’s clearance right now! Not always they have great deals, but right now they do.
Disney Jasmine PJ set: $5.08!! (regular 16.99)
Elena put them on right away when we got home and took a nap.
Elena’s first dentist appointment!
I had been looking for a holistic dentist for weeks and it has been tough because the ones that I liked had more bad reviews than good. There was one holistic dentist office that kept popping up during my research that had great reviews but didn’t look too holistic.
What is a holistic dentist? It’s a dentist who takes in consideration your whole body and doesn’t just focus in the mouth. They don’t use toxins in their office either. You can find a holistic dentist and read more about it HERE.
This was for Elena’s first cleaning, so my priority was someone that works well with kids and uses no fluoride and no mercury. Ideally, I wanted a dentist that believes the body can heal itself instead of the traditional medicine of filling cavities and such.
I ended up taking her to a dentist who claims they are holistic, but during the visit I realized the dentist believed in traditional dentistry. I was just glad she was very kid friendly and took her time explaining everything to my 3 year old. The cleaning had no fluoride and their office is mercury-free, BPA free, and clean water. In overall, it was a great first visit and the office was lovely but the dentist wasn’t fully holistic.
Elena has FIVE cavities. I felt like a total failure. She used the bottle for a long time and would sleep with it. She just recently let go of the pacifier. It’s also hard to brush her teeth. It literally takes me about 20 minutes to brush her teeth because she refuses each time.
Anyway, the dentist recommended for us to see a pediatric dentist for five fillings. Are you kidding me? I can’t do that. The reason I wanted a holistic dentist was because I didn’t want to do fillings or take the tradition route. I don’t want to put a little one through that. That would make her afraid of dentists forever.
I didn’t go to sleep until 1 AM that day because I researched and researched natural ways to cure cavities in kids. There are blog moms out there who have shared their experience with curing cavities. It’s real!
The dentist said the cavities can wait until January (when I’ll add Elena to my insurance since she doesn’t have dental insurance right now). I’m going to try to cure her 5 cavities naturally. I have a few months. If you have any recommendations, please let me know!
On Thursdays, we dance
Elena is the one in black.
December recital (dance show) is 2 months away! The girls started practicing. Christmas music before Halloween anyone?
What I’m reading
I have a long list of books I want to read, but when I went to the library, I browsed around the “Popular picks” section.
I picked out this one:
I’m really enjoying it. It’s a mystery/suspence/thriller book.
Allie Garvey is heading home to the funeral of a childhood friend. Allie is not only grief-stricken, she’s full of dread. Because going home means seeing the other two people with whom she shares an unbearable secret.
Twenty years earlier, a horrific incident shattered the lives of five teenagers, including Allie. Drinking and partying in the woods, they played a dangerous prank that went tragically wrong, turning deadly. The teenagers kept what happened a secret, believing that getting caught would be the worst thing that could happen. But time has taught Allie otherwise. Not getting caught was far worse.
Allie has been haunted for two decades by what she and the others did, and by the fact that she never told a soul. The dark secret has eaten away at her, distancing her from everyone she loves, including her husband. Because she wasn’t punished by the law, Allie has punished herself, and it’s a life sentence.
Now, Allie stands on the precipice of losing everything. She’s ready for a reckoning, determined to learn how the prank went so horribly wrong. She digs to unearth the truth, but reaches a shocking conclusion that she never saw coming–and neither will the reader.
A deeply emotional examination of family, marriage, and the true nature of justice, Someone Knows is Lisa Scottoline’s most powerful novel to date. Startling, page-turning, and with an ending that’s impossible to forget, this is a tour de force by a beloved author at the top of her game.
I would love to get back to reading more books. Leave me your book suggestions below. 🙂
I’ve been sick on and off since the first week of September. I was able to get a run in on Thursday night.
I’m running my first marathon in January 2020!
Improving in swim class
I missed Elena’s first half of swim class on Saturday because of work, but I made it for the second half.
She went underwater for 5 seconds!
I missed it, but Esteban said he freaked out when the teacher put her down for a long time. Elena did just fine according to Esteban. I’m so proud of her and she was so proud of herself.
Resent blog post: Blog Update October 2019
What’s going on your week? As I am currently posting this blog post now, I am sick again. I had a fever for 102 F yesterday. It was still 102F when I went to bed after a bath and I had a low grade fever this morning. I started getting sick when since I stated marathon training, but I just don’t see how they can be correlated?
I hope you’re doing better than I am!
