Next month, on April 6th 2019, I will be running my 3rd half marathon in Chicago, IL. In this blog post, I share a training update on my running and a recap on my January/February miles.
Winter this year has been like nothing before. Temperatures as low as -50 F with the wind, snow days, and ice storms. I can’t wait for the day I can go outside and not feel pain in my face from the cold. That’s Chicago for you.
I have not ran outside so far this year 2019. I’ve depended on my treadmill for all my runs and I think I’m about to go crazy any day now. I know many people hate running on the treadmill, but I used to not mind it. Now I mind just a bit because my mileage is increasing. I’m crossing my fingers to get out for a run this week sometime. It is currently 16 degrees F at the time I’m writing this blog post and with the wind it feels like 5 degrees F according to my weather app.
I really hope next Winter is nothing like this one because I’ll be training for a marathon instead of a half marathon. WDW Marathon January 2020!
I started my half marathon training for this race the second week of January. Currently, I’m on week 7 of training.
Here’s my training update and recap from the past two months:
I started off strong with with a detailed training plan and I was pumped! I ran Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
I used a training plan from the book Runner’s World Big Book Of Marathon And Half-Marathon Training.
This month was easy in that it didn’t include long distance runs. The longest run in the plan for the month were 4/5 miles.
The longest I ran in January was 4 miles in 58:53 minutes on the treadmill. On the two 5 mile runs that I had scheduled, I only ran 2 miles on one and 3.1 miles on the other. Treadmill boredom and time had something to do with that.
I ran 33 miles in January.
In February, I missed a few runs (2 Tuesdays and 1 Sunday). I kept the same running days as January of Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
The longest scheduled runs from the raining plan were 6/7 miles. The longest I ran this month was 5.5 miles in 1 hour and 23 minutes on the treadmill. Again, I think it was just treadmill boredom. I didn’t have any time issues this month that I can remember.
I ran 2.14 on Valentine’s day like last year 🙂
I ran 39 miles in February!
One month to go and although, I’ve missed a few runs and I cut short a few long runs, I feel confident that I will feel ready for the race and that I will finish. It’s my 3rd half marathon, so I have learned to trust my body and I have learned to adjust training plans to what my body can handle or needs.
Never did I ever think I would be a runner. I started running in 2015 and I’m hooked! Let’s do this!
When’s your next race?
What’s the longest distance you’ve run?
