After last year’s 5K in Bloomingdale, IL, I told myself I would not do another New Year’s 5K. The runner in me wanted to run a 5K the first day of 2019, so I signed up for a virtual 5K instead. In this blog post, I share my Virtual Resolution Run 5K Recap.
The virtual Resolution Run 5K was sold by Gone For A Run. This was my second time buying a virtual run from them.

What is a virtual run?
A run you can do anywhere at anytime at any pace.
Normally, after you register to a virtual run, you are then shipped a shirt or item plus a medal. All races vary. Some offer medals only. Others offer shirts only. Others offer both plus bibs and so on.
The prices for these virtual runs are almost the same as a regular 5K you can run anywhere else. The longer the run, the more expensive.

In this case, I wanted to do a virtual 5K because last year on January 1st it was -20 degrees Fahrenheit and I almost didn’t go to the 5K.
With this virtual 5K, I was able to run January 1st on my treadmill inside my home! No cold running for me.
For $35, I got a fitted shirt, medal, bib, and free shipping. Gone For A Run also has a link to share your time and post pictures on their website.

During my 5K (3.1 miles) run, I watched Taylor Swift’s Reputation Tour on Netflix. I only watched about half of it and I will finish watching it on my next run 🙂

I didn’t follow any run/walk apps nor the C25K app during this run and just ran/walked it by feel.
I normally follow a C25K week based on how I feel or I use the IntervalTimer app on my phone during my runs. Not this time though.
I took time off from running during blogmas, so I have been taking it easy these past couple of runs. I feel comfortable running 3 minutes straight and alternating with walking for a minute or two.
My time on the treadmill was 45:51 minutes for 3.103 miles.
I ran a 5K on December 8th, 2018 (last month) in 38 minutes. My runs on the treadmill are always slower.

I really enjoy collecting runner medals. I have quite a collection on my wall.
What better way to start off the year than by running a 5K!? Only a runner would say that….I know haha.

I love virtual runs because of the flexibility of the time, place and pace.
Isn’t the medal for this run amazing!? The 4 runners in the middle of the medal move from left to right.
Did you run on January 1st?
Do you like virtual runs?
