Welcome to Blogmas day 21! In this blog post, I share which races I hope to run in 2019. These races are all in Illinois.
If you missed my blog post about my 2019 running goals, click here. I shared about wanting to run a full marathon January 2020 in that blog post. In preparation for the marathon, I want to get in several races in 2019.
I’m aiming for at least one half marathon, several 5Ks and 10K races, and one 15k. I have not registered for any yet and things might change.
Here are the races I want to run in 2019.
Resolutions Run 5K (Virtual) January 1
Live Love Run 2.14 Miles (Virtual) February 14
Schamrock Beer Run & BrewFest 5K March 9
Deer Park St. Paddy’s 10K March 16
Lincoln Presidential Half Marathon OR Chi Town Half Marathon April 6th
Mother’s Day 5K May 12
The Stroller Run June (TBD)
Brunch Run 5K June (TBD)
Chicago Rock ‘n’ Roll 10K July 22
Run Mag Mile 10K September 7
International Chicago 5K October 12
Chicago 15K Hot Chocolate November 3
Rotary Santa Run 5K December (TBD)
The only race I run each year is the Mother’s Day 5K. Other than that and Disney races, I don’t like running the race twice. I try to do new ones each year.
I have run the Rock ‘n’ Roll 10K before, but there aren’t many races posted online for the summer and I really want to run a race in July. We’ll see if I do that one again. Hopefully, I can find something new and closer to home.
This year, I ran the Commitment Day 5K on January 1st, 2018 and it was 20 degrees below zero! I said I would never sign up for a New Year’s race ever again. So, this year I want to run a virtual New Year’s Day 5K so that I can do it on my treadmill after I sleep in.
March is my birthday month, so I might treat myself to two races 😉 I want to run a 10K in March, but the 5K (a week before the 10k) looks so fun! The 5K has a medal, long sleeve shirt, lots of beer, and it’s in the afternoon! I am not a morning person and I love medals! Beer is a plus because it’s “free.” I don’t ever drink–only at St.Patrick’s Day 5Ks.
I almost signed up to Lincoln’s Presidential Half last year, but I decided to wait until 2019 because they have a brand new medal for 2019. BUT, it’s in Springfield, IL. That’s 3-4 hours from where I live. That’s not a problem, but my husband and I tried going on a mini getaway to Springfield a few years ago (before we had Elena), and our car got totaled/ Someone hit us from behind pretty bad in the rain about 30-40 minutes away from Springfield. We never made it. So, my husband said we will never go to Springfield after what happened.
If I don’t do the Springfield half (which I’m dying to do!), then I will do the Chicago Half because it’s on the same day.
The Stroller Run is a must this year for me! One of my running goals is to do more stroller running with my toddler, so this is perfect!
Brunch 5K just showed up while I was googling for Chicago races, and I mean, come on!? Brunch and a 5K? Perfect combo. Must do.
Run Mag Mile, International Chicago 5K, and Chicago 15K Hot Chocolate have been on my wish list for a few years now. Hopefully, I’ll get to do all of them this year.
Which race are you looking forward to in 2019?
Are you doing a New Year’s Day race?

That’s a fun list of races for 2019! How many half marathons do you usually run per year? I hope you’re having a fantastic Friday.
This September was my first half marathon, so next year I’m bumping it up to 3 🙂
That’s impressive! Going from 1 to 3 in a year. I can’t wait to read all about it.
