Painting walls + Chipotle queso + 11 minute mile + organic milk
Saturday:
Lately, I’ve been working on becoming a morning person to get more things done.
I woke up at 7:30am on Saturday, but got out of bed at 7:50am. I ate breakfast and did some shopping at our local hardware store (Menards). I had planned to do this the night before to start painting early on Saturday, but Esteban accepted to a last-minute plan with his friends and we didn’t get a chance to figure out what we needed.
I bought what we needed: white paint (Dutch Boy’s Ultra White), painter’s tape, paint brushes, and extra refills for our small roller that we have.
I also spotted Elena’s favorite pasta salad on sale and I had to take advantage of the 10 for $10 deal. They are Betty Crocker’s Suddenly Salad Classic.
These two adult coloring books were $9.99 each but FREE after rebate. If you shop at Menards and don’t do rebate sales, you are missing out! It’s legit and I’ve done rebates for years and I always get my money back (it takes several weeks though).
The books are thick and have very nice drawings. I’m excited to color in them and I’m sure Elena will want to help me too.
Anyone shopping for Christmas?
I was so tired of the yellow. I never liked it.
- before picture of our hallway (Esteban had already started painting it white
- Elena’s first time painting a wall.
The walls were yellow and pink when we moved in. We painted them red and white. We moved in before I became obsessed with home improvement shows like Fixer Upper and the Property Brothers. If I could go back, I would have chosen different colors. What were we thinking?
Fun fact: I’ve always wanted red walls in my living room whenever I moved out of my parent’s house. When my husband and I were choosing colors for our apartment in 2015, I wanted to paint a light grey but Esteban said it was almost white. So I suggested red and he loved the idea. That’s why we have red and white walls.
Elena and I got out of the house to let “dada” finish painting alone.
We went to Kohl’s because I had a 15% off coupon. I bought something for my brothers’ upcoming birthdays, a red flannel shirt for myself, play-dough kit, and a lunch bag for Elena. Sorry, no picture from our purchase! You’ll see them in a different post or on Instagram soon.
After Kohl’s I got Chipotle for dinner. I was really craving their queso with chips. It’s the best thing ever!
We are currently watching REBELDE on Netflix. It’s a soap opera that was very popular about 10 or so years ago and it’s in Spanish. My husband and I watch everything with subtitles. We just prefer it that way in case Elena is too loud. We normally watch Netflix in Elena’s play room.

Elena fell asleep after eating on the floor right next us in the play room.
Our living room and kitchen were a disaster because Esteban not only painted the hallway but also the trim all along the bottom of the living room and kitchen. I helped by moving everything and putting painter’s tape.
I’m also planning to add some blue or a pop of color to our living room because it’s too much red.
The strollers are usually in the corner under the AC. All things on sofa were donated to Good Will. The boards by the treadmill I’ve had for years and never used them. I’ll be getting rid of them. My desk is hiding behind the sofa.
Elena and I were home alone for the night because Esteban went out with his friends for a second evening/night in a row (never happens).
Elena and I washed the bed sheets, played together, and ate apples with peanut butter before heading to bed.
Sunday:
Sunday I got up at 9:30am as usual. I ate breakfast and headed for a run with my brother at 10:30am.
I always eat oatmeal before a morning run. I go between eating the “dinosaur” oatmeal and peaches and cream oatmeal + banana. But then again, 5-6 days out of the week I eat oatmeal for breakfast too!
I had planned to run 6 miles on Sunday, but my work life has been a bit out of control. I’m not working so much extra hours, but the amount of work I did during the week was a lot more than usual due to being very short staff. That kind of threw me off during the week in respect to my running schedule.
Sunday was in the 80s and at the 5 mile mark, I decided that it was a good run and there was no need to push myself specially on a hot day.
- run on a hot day
The first mile, I ran at 11 min per mile pace! I was pretty proud of that because I haven’t run a mile that “fast” in a few years. Wohoo!
Below is a picture of the AFTER. good-bye yellow! SO much better 🙂
Feels great to finally be done with painting our apartment. We moved in during my pregnancy and my husband painted about 60% of what we planned before our daughter’s early entrance to the world. Almost 3 years later, we’re done with painting (I blame Esteban and he will agree with this haha).
I want to make this a Disney theme hallway by putting up maybe 3-4 Disney art pieces on the wall.
Sunday errands: Mail rebates, mail check for rent, donate several things to Goodwill and grocery shopping.
- Elena LOVES to water paint with brush and hands!
- Menards rebates
I’ve been shopping organic for several weeks now, but recently switched Elena to organic milk as of two weeks ago. It’s a lot more expensive than a $2 regular gallon of milk, but you gotta do what you gotta do.
Elena is picky eater, so I try to look for fun new food items for her. This week, I got her this cereal. It’s organic, it has a panda (she loves animals), and it’s peanut butter flavor (she loves peanut butter). She liked the cereal, but I think she still prefers her favorite —> coco puffs.
This is my Trader Joe’s haul.
It’s my first time buying tofu! I’ve tried tofu at Chipotle and at Noodles & Company before but I haven’t LOVED it yet. I’m trying to like it. So…I’m new at this. I need to find some really good tofu recipes.
By the way, Trader Joe’s fried rice is amazing! It’s my husband’s favorite thing!
Do you know what’s the best way to end the weekend as a mom? With a clean play room.
The doll house was recent gift from one of my co-workers. It wasn’t used much by her now grown up daughters and she had been keeping it in her basement for years. Elena is completely in love with the doll house and she can spend up to 30 minutes of playing by herself. That’s a big help for me so I can get things done.
Do you have nay home project that you’re working on or will be working on?
Do you shop Menards rebate sales?
Where do you like to grocery shop?
Are you a fan of Chipotle’s queso with chips?
