As a Disney fanatic, you will find me shopping for Disney parks and Disney non-parks merchandise all year round (most of that time I am not at the parks because I live in Illinois). In this blog post, I share my tips on how to save money on Disney parks merchandise no matter where you live in the United States! I have also included all the most recent items I have purchased and I share the parks price vs the price I paid for them. Disney parks merchandise and Disney merchandise in general can be really affordable if you know how to shop for them.
First let me clarify the difference between Disney parks merchandise and Disney merchandise. It’s simple and it is exactly that! Disney parks merchandise is merchandise only sold at Disney parks and usually have ” Disney Parks,” “Disney World,” or “Disneyland” on them. Disney non-park merchandise is merchandise that all Disney stores sell outside of the parks.
Here are my tips on how to save money on Disney Parks merchandise & Disney Merchandise:
1 | Shop at your nearest Disney outlet Store
THE DISNEY OUTLET STORE is like heaven on earth (specially when they have a new shipment from the parks). You can find Disney parks merchandise at a high discounted prices at Disney outlet stores. Not every Disney store in the US is an outlet. The nearest Disney outlet for me is close to an hour away from me, so there aren’t many. Make sure to ask your nearest Disney store about the outlet stores or check online to find the nearest one for you.
The Disney outlet stores receive merchandise directly from the Disney parks. My local outlet store only receives merchandise from Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure. The outlet stores then sell the items at very low prices. The items are brand new in great condition. They just didn’t sell at the parks.
2 | Ask Disney store staff about sales and when exactly they get new Disney parks merchandise
Get to know the staff at your local Disney store! Even if you don’t want to know them, I’m sure they will be willing to help with answering all your questions 😉
Ask your Disney store the following questions:
- How often do you get new Disney parks merchandise?
- When is the next shipment?
- What day of the week do you receive it?
- What sales are going on right now?
- What sales are coming out soon?
You might sound like a weirdo asking all these questions all at once, but you get the idea. My local Disney outlet receives new Disney parks merchandise about every 30 days and they always receive it on a Thursday. The manager told me to call ahead and ask what day exactly they will put out the merchandise. They are all very friendly and want to help you! 🙂
3 | Sign up to receive sale notifications online
Go to the Disney Store website and sign up to their E-mail list. They send out sale notifications and coupons pretty regularly. They usually have free shipping with a $75 purchase too. The price after discount won’t be as low as shopping at an outlet but it’s cheaper than buying the merchandise at the Disney Parks.
Their sales and coupons do have several exclusions, but it’s still a nice discount on the things that you can use it on. The discounts are normally 10-25% off when available. They always have a “sale” section that has good discounts, but things sell out fast and most of the time you won’t be able to find the size that you are looking for in clothing.
4 | Shop the Twice Upon A Year Sale at Disney Store
These sales happen twice a year (Summer and Winter) and it’s in all Disney stores (outlet and non-outlet) plus the sale is also online. You will get notified by E-mail if you sign up to receive them through the online Disney store. You can also ask at your local Disney store about this sale to find out the start date.
5 | Apply for a Disney credit or debit card
Disney Visa cardholders receive an additional 10% off their entire purchase (even sale items) with any $50 or more purchase. Most of the time, if you apply and get approved for a Disney credit card, you also get a $200 Disney gift card! Plus with the credit card, you accumulate points which you can receive “reward dollars” for more Disney merchandise, Disney trips, and more.
I only have the debit cards and it helps me not over spend 😉
Here is what I bought at my Disney outlet store last week!
All items were discounted Disney parks items except for the uffufy beast and the kid’s sunglasses. I received an additional 20% off the Disney parks items because of the sale going on at that time and an additional 10% ALL items because I used my Disney debit card.
I recently started to get into pin trading. I haven’t traded yet because I have none to trade! I have a few that I have bought at the parks over the years, but those I’m planning to keep. I’m planning to trade the star wars pins in the pictures below because I’m not a fan of Star Wars. I was kind of disappointed my outlet store didn’t have too much pins. THIS IS ALL THEY HAD. No joke. I bought one of each of all they had haha. I was so glad to see Cinderella had “March” on it because that’s my birthday month and I also love the Ariel pin because my husband and I dinned at Ariel’s grotto in California Adventure in 2015.
Here is my Target Disney Merchandise Haul
I went to my local target and they were absolutely SOLD OUT of all the Disney by Junk Food items except for the clothing. I then went to another Target and bought these items below ( I didn’t want to go too crazy on this):
I also went to yet ANOTHER Target, and I bought a cute minnie mouse journal ($8) and stickers ($1). Sorry no picture. This Disney and Target collaboration has had great success and I love it all! Prices are reasonable too!
I hope you find these tips helpful in your future Disney purchases! Let me know if you have any questions in the comment section below. Please also tell me your saving tips!
