I find organization blog posts so satisfying. Seeing a messy place being transformed to a clean and organized place that works for one’s needs is what I love. In this blog post, I share the before and the after of our hallway closet.
In this hallway closet, we have all of my shoes and husband’s shoes and we also use it as our mud room. We moved into our apartment during my pregnancy and Elena just turned two. While moving in, we just got a shelf and placed all of our shoes in this closet. After that we had an empty space on the right side of the closet. We threw in everything that didn’t have a “home” there. By this, I mean all the things that we didn’t have a place to put them or just didn’t want to think about it while moving in, we just threw it in this closet and we never organized it.
Here I am, 2+ years later organizing the hallway closet! I finished cleaning and organizing this closet in two separate days.
-
Day 1: Right side of closet- Our mud room
-
Day 2: Left side of closet and top-Shoe storage
Day 1, I took out everything from our “mud room” area. I got rid of what we didn’t need, cleaned and I bought a small shoe rack to use as our mud room organizer. I bought the shoe rack at Aldi for about $8.
Day 2, I took out all of the shoes and tried on every single one. The ones that didn’t fit, didn’t want anymore and/or were old, I threw away or donated them. I then cleaned the shelves and walls and placed them back nicely.
I used a half and half mixture of cleaning vinegar and water in a spray bottle to wipe down shelves and walls.
I hope these pictures inspire you to organize a closet in your home. 🙂
